Yep, it’s a little more official.
I removed Instagram from my linktree.
But here we are, a month without Instagram as a marketing tool. And where do I stand at a month without Instagram?
Well… I’ve not been good about staying off entirely. I keep logging into my personal account. Sometimes, it’s hard when there may be things you want to share with the people you know in person and not with followers on other platforms.
But I’m hoping that in the coming months, I can detangle myself entirely from being on ANY Meta apps.
It can be hard. Being strong against a social media addiction is near impossible. For the first week, I didn’t touch the app at all. And part of me wants to deactivate my account altogether, delete the app, and force myself to not be on Instagram.
But the other part wants my account to stay up. Partly because it was the first place I began to meet and build a writing community outside of the one I had met within the blogging community.
Don’t get me wrong, a few bloggers I originally met are some of my closest friends now! (Shoutout to Faith, Bree, and Abbie!) But I didn’t want to be trapped in the “clean writing” circle that I had found myself in. It was nice to branch out to new readers who were different than that. Who wrote different things.
Sidenote: I will be making a post soon about the clean writing movement and why it is damaging the publishing industry and corrupting good writing! A hot button topic you won’t want to miss!
But my problem right now is that Meta has yet to make it right. And even if they did… would any of us really trust them? I don’t think I could.
So while this post is short, I just thought I would come on here and say that it has been nice to not be working on posting marketing content on Instagram. It’s been nice to focus on other methods of bringing my work to readers. I post on TikTok, and I started a YouTube (just shorts right now. Perhaps videos someday!) I am trying hard to be consistent on writing posts here.
This past week, I was on vacation, so I didn’t have the means to write a post. (The hotel Wi-Fi was unprotected and I was NOT going to put any of my devices on an unprotected network thanks!)
I don’t think I will really do any more updates about not being on Instagram since I do log on to my personal account at times. But I’m not going to lie and act like I’ve stayed away entirely.
I’ve cut back quite a lot, and I’m even working on cutting back on other platforms.
That’s all for now!
But trust me, the next post about clean fiction vs. the rest of fiction is going to be JUICY so stick around for that. I’m very excited (and perhaps nervous) to post that one!
Until next time!
Keep rising!
